FERNIE MOUNTAIN BIKING
June 28th - July 1st 2003
On the July long weekend, a group of us from the Elbow Valley Cycle Club went to the Crowsnest and Fernie area to do some mountain biking.
The EVCC members were Kim Hooper, John King, Andrea Freeman, Roy Scarisbrick, Carol Guthrie, Roberta Hunt, Chris Gilham, Doug Gray and guests Bryan Garrett, Andrew Riggs. Marty Stanvick also joined us for one day of riding.

Day 2:
FERNIE - Verbotener Wald, Dem Bones, Hedonism, Sherwoody Forest, Old
Goat, Mega Hurts, Black Forest. |

Here's the gang outside the wonderful condo at Alpenhaus that we rented for the weekend. Ours was the bottom right condo called First Tracks. Our host Kathy Reese was very friendly and helpful. For information on the condo rental go to www.alpenhaus-fernie.com .

It was way too warm for hot-tubbing after the ride so Chris sneaks in a quick one before the ride. |
|
|
|
| Our first trail was
Verbotener
Wald which was a new trail for all of us. It was a steep climb up but
absolutely worth the effort. Doug can read the writing on the trees.
|
|
The gang having a wee rest before starting the trail. |
The start of the trail was rather bumpy but Andrew's now ready to rip up the rest of the trail.
|
| Doug shows us how it's done.
The top of the trail had lots of technical tricks on it. More difficult
for some of us than others but fun all the same. The bottom half was
steep winding track through the trees. |

Bryan and Roberta tackle the smaller bridges....... .......while Doug and Chris go for the big ones. |
|
Marty finds taking pictures almost as dangerous as trying to ride the tricks. |
|
Oops, wrong turn. Roy comes skidding down a gravel bank at the end of the trail. |
After a very refreshing dip in the creek we headed up Sherwoody Forest, Gorbie Trail and over to Old Goat. |
