FERNIE MOUNTAIN BIKING
June 28th - July 1st 2003

On the July long weekend, a group of us from the Elbow Valley Cycle Club went to the Crowsnest and Fernie area to do some mountain biking.

The EVCC members were Kim Hooper,  John King, Andrea Freeman, Roy Scarisbrick, Carol Guthrie, Roberta Hunt, Chris Gilham, Doug Gray, and guests Bryan Garrett, Andrew Riggs. Marty Stanvick also joined us for one day of riding.

Day 1: Blairmore - York with a Fork and Enchanted Forest

We started the trip in Blairmore at the IGA. From there it was a quick ride over to Coleman to the start of York with a Fork.

After climbing up through the trees, with the mosquitoes chasing us all the way, we arrived at some old mining holes filled with water.

There were some great technical sections through the trees. At times it was hard to determine where the trail was as it was so faint. Lots of logs to hop and tight trees to navigate.

We stopped for lunch at what we were told was a  "lake" I think "swamp" is a better word for it though.

We just got going on Enchanted Forest when Bryan managed to tie his derailleur into a figure-eight.

Doug was in charge of repairs while the rest of us looked on.

Back on the trail again.

It just wasn't Bryan's day. First a mud bath, then a broken derailleur followed by a water bath and a taste of what it's like to bring up the rear. We didn't quite get his gears working so Bryan ran up the hills and coasted the downhills.  His crazy laugh still echoed through the forest.

Bunny-hop to Sunday.
